UPDATE: Check the forum for latest news on 2209. Including how to unlock it.
Clear released a new version of the iSpot software today, and with it they made a few changes. The web-jailbreak no longer works, nor does the downgrade method, or config method. At the moment, no jailbreaks exists for the new version of iSpot software. Head over to the forum to find out more.
I will be making updates to this site as we make progress with the firmware.
FORUM LAUNCHED!
This wasn’t planned, but I’ll be opening the forum up now for people to ask questions. You can find the forum over at http://ispotunrestricted.com/forum/phpBB3/ we have some guides up for older versions of the jailbreak as well.
Hi Jaku – did the iSpot Unrestricted 2.0 method of jailbreaking the device successfully prevent this 2209 firmware from being automatically updated onto the device?
Thanks again for all of your hard work–
Yes, you will need to actually upgrade yourself if you want 2209 so don’t do it yet.
I have turned off my Unrestricted iSpot for more than a week. Will turn it on now get this new firmware? I thought 2.0 stopped the OTA firmware update. Thanks.
You should be ok to turn it on. The unrestrictions disable OMA.
Also, this is what Clear has to say about the 2209 at http://www.clear.com/support/download/device/ispot :
Firmware Update
Infomark iSpot
Version 2209
Feature Improvements:
OMA-DM Enhancements to make sure device is a good citizen when initially powered on.
WiFi Performance Enhancement for Apple iDevices.
Added support for additional iDevices from Apple.
During data transfers, WiFi radio is not powered off. WiFi radio is left powered-up during data transfers to enhance data transfer throughput performance.
Security Fixes.
Last updated Januray 05, 2011
iSpot ONLY!
(not for use with the Spot)
“good citizen” eh? hmmm
I haven’t unrestricted my iSpot yet, so I’m curious…
For anyone who DID upgrade to the new version:
Does anyone know if the new firmware still allows any MAC addresses added into the MAC Address Filter or IP Reservation features?
How about spoofed IP addresses?
Can anyone with this unrestricted firmware upgrade to the newly released one without worry of bricking?
You won’t brick your unit by upgrading, but you will lose the ability to unrestrict it. I have not released anything to counter it yet.
I unrestricted last week and everything worked great. This week I powered off and inadvertently reset my ispot. Does reset take the auto-update out as well? How can I check (soft & firm #s) to see whether or not my ispot has updated to the new locked version? Sorry, I’m just a tad confused and appreciate any suggestions. Non-i devices seem not to work today.
Check the web portal at http://192.168.1.1 it will tell you the versions
Should have added that when I click on ispotunrestricted/2.0 now I get “Error: Invalid Argument”
Yeah, as mentioned they fixed the CSRF I was using to jailbreak the iSpots. So at the moment all users with iSpots with the new firmware cannot unrestrict them.
Excuse my dunsity on this stuff. It says:
Software Version: 2.0.0.0 [R2209 (Dec 7...)]
Firmware: 1.9.9.4
Thanks!
Finally, I’m still within the 2 week return policy — how confident are you that you’ll be successful again? You rock.
It’s tough, I’ve managed to get into mine but that’s because I have a serial connection. I’m working on it and will hopefully have news soon.
Got iSpot this week (July fw), unrestricted it via iPhone, verified Windows connectivity, and disabled auto-updates.
Today I updated fw to Aug 4/5 version from this site, and auto-updates were still disabled, plus my other tweaks were left alone. Windows can still connect.
Awesome stuff!
Thanks for your hard work on this. I have a 3 week old iSpot that has not been upgraded or unlocked. It worked out of the box with my MacBook Pro. It has been off for 2 weeks
3 questions please
1. Is the firmware upgrade automatic? How to prevent.
2. Can I still unlock it?
3. It is only reset when holding the button down for a long time, not simply on and off-Correct?
If you unrestrict it as soon as you turn it on, it shouldn’t have had time to update. This will disable OMADM which should prevent it from updating.
The device will only revert back if you hold power for 15+. Keep in mind this does not revert the version back, just all settings to default.
Once reverted, it appears the auto-update resets as well.
Really? That’s very odd. If that is for real, I’d like to talk to you about your iSpot.
I’ve seen reference to a December fw – is it advantageous to upgrade to it from Aug 4/5 version? If so, is it available here?
My iSpot was jailbroken 3 weeks ago. Last night I couldn’t connected to network. The logs on the device would show this:
Aug 15 09:00:38 auto_cm[299]: NETWORK_CONNECT_FAIL_IND
Aug 15 09:00:38 auto_cm[299]: Connection failed. 1 3
And the WiMax connection status on the device would bounce between Scanning, Ready, Handshake.
I reset the modem (remove the jailbreak) and sure enough it started connecting again, I jailbroke it again, and after it rebooted it had the same connection issues described above, so I reset it a second time and Im able to connect again. Could this be coincidence or can they now detect the jailbreak and prohibit you from connecting?
I did no manual updates
My versions:
Software v 2.0.0.0
firmware v 1.9.9.4
anybody else have problems connecting with the old august firmware?
I’m on Aug 4/5 fw and am still fine
Hey Jaku, thanks for all your hard work an all this. I have an iSpot with 2209 already installed?
Not sure if I want to keep it if it’s restricted. Do you think you’ll be successful with a hack, or a firmware downgrade? If so, do you have any idea how long.?
Hey Jaku, Thanks for all the hard work you’ve put into this. I have an iSpot which is already on 2209
I’m wondering if you think you’ll be able to hack this new firmware or find a way to perform a firmware downgrade.? If so, if you have any idea how long it will take you? Reason I’m asking is that I don’t think I want to keep the iSpot if it remains restricted. Cheers.
Sorry, didn’t realize that my first comment posted.
Question:
What if I upgraded my iSpot with the Firmware for the Spot, “2207″ and NOT the “2209″? If the hardware is the same, simple logic would have me think it jail breaks itself? I don’t know if it is even possible, but I am wondering if it might work.
Does anyone know if ispot will upgrade or update itself to the new version cuz currently My versions:
Software v 2.0.0.0
firmware v 1.9.9.4
not jailbreak
And I use it all the time, and it has not update or upgrade itself to the new version yet.
May be either just on manual or with reset.
hi, i connected my winxp laptop to ispot
Software Version 2.0.0.0 [R1821 (Aug 15 2010 08:44:41)]
Firmware Version 1.9.9.4
then go to your 2.0 website and get the following:
Connecting to ispotunrestricted.com (67.213.218.3:80) wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 307 Temporary Redirect
i noticed others with the same issue but what is the solution?
Your iSpot isn’t currently connected to the the WiMax tower, or your plan hasn’t been activated yet. Try to browse to a site from your iDevice and make sure that works first.
Hi Jaku and all, is there a way to extend the wireless network on claer spot 4g+? The current software allows for 5 devices to connect and no extension. I am not worried about the number of devices, but if I could extend it with my existing router I would not need to change anything else. The printer connected to my router, the external harddrive, music streaming etc, everthing just works perfectly on an airport extreme, but clear 4g+ does not allow it to extend the network so I have to rework everything from scratch and not everything works.
when are you releasing a new hack for 2209 firmware ?
Sucks, my iSpot was in my bag and was unrestricted, but it was reset to all defaults because something held the power button in and it automatically did the upgrade to the latest version. I’ve been using it since August without issue until now. Argh!
Funny thing is that I log into the super page and it says Restricted Use: false with no MAC addresses, but I can’t browse anywhere without getting redirected to the clear webpage.
Similar thing happened to me Daniel. Fortunately for me though, it was still in the OK-to-return period. Had hopes for iSpot but perhaps I’ll just wait for the hotspot feature in the new iOs.
BEWARE!!
If your ispot is on the old firmware, unrestrict now or turn off your Ispot for the time being. CLEAR IS FORCING over the Air Automatic update . Mine just updated by itself this morning. This NOT ONLY restrict your ispot to apple device, it further restrict to Ipad, Ipod and Iphone ONLY. No more Laptop and desktop access.
With the iSpot being discontinued, this could be the last time they bother with this.
How confident are you Jaku that 2009 can be hacked?
Thanks for the great work. Should setup a paypal account.

I have no idea what the new software update did, but It looks like it might be something browser related ? When you surf the web your browser information is seem by the ISP, may they be just setting up a filter for anything that is but a mobile browser? Just a theory ! Im eagerly waiting for a fix for this forced update =( !
I should have never powered it off !!!!!!!
Omg! This sucks! I can’t believe I accidentally updated..Must have held the button too long.I ‘m getting the “Invalid Argument” BS now.
Jaku- Are you going to make a new jailbreak to help us? If so, when do you think it will be done?
Days? Months? Years?
Thank you very much for your work on the iSpot, it is awesome when unrestricted, but not that great locked up.
FYI – there is an error in Pro Corner lan.conf modification – there must be no indentation before the ‘eof’ here file sentinel values. The indent breaks the syntax.
Thanks. If you posted this on the forum it would of been fixed earlier.
making any progress? We appreciate you taking this task and making it happen.
The clear location by me has several of these devices in stock. I can assume they come with the latest & greatest firmware, so I am not even going to bother purchasing one. Even if the device had an older firmware, the moment i power the device on it would auto-upate, right?
@awd: Check the forums for an update on 2209.
I continue to get ERROR:invalid argument. What am I doing wrong. I have read the forums but don’t see this being a problem for anybody else.
I’ve got my ISpot today.
Can I turn on it within Clear coverage and still apply Urestricted 2.0 method. Or I need apply patch before ISPOT connected to internet. So do I need to find areas with no CLEAR coverage?
I like tacos and Jaku.
Clear is no longer allowing me to access my iSpot, it says that I must update…
If I update to 2209 will you help me out with a jailbreak? Thanks so much.
Yes, just check the forum for details.
Hi! Forum registration doesn’t work. Gives me an “The password does not contain the required characters.” error, but I’ve tried with different case alpha numeric, 13 characters long passwords, even with non-latin letters, still the same error.
I’m noob with ispot and don’t own it yet, just planning. I’m just curious if it will work with another peice of wonderfull wireless technology, eye-fi SD card (it’s not possible to change eye-fi’s Mac adddress), to upload my pictures at the spot. Also if is it worth to buy. Meaning if I’ll buy it in ebay, can I get hands on 25$ plan
Thanks very much.
Yes if you were to jailbreak it then the eye-fi should work without any issues.
I can’t seem to get my ispot unrestricted.
I’m kind of new to the ispot game so I just took a screenshot of my info. I used the browser based hack and I got an error. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, I’m trying to register at forum but it gives me “The password does not contain the required characters.” error, even though the password is LlLlNNNNNN where l-letters, N-numbers
