Post Re: Sierra Overdrive, changing MDN / MSID
may i ask what the mdn/msid change is needed for by the way?

the devices esn/meid.. as well as a mdn/msid are ONLY for OTA activation and cdma1x speeds.

3g data is entirely separate and can work by itself.. without the meid/mdn/msid matching at all. the only thing youd miss out on is 1x data speeds..

just not sure what ur doing exactly.. but im just putting it out there.

I didn't realize that the mdn/msid was only used for cdma1x. I configured the mobile IP settings under "Manual Activation", but assumed I needed the MDN/MSID because I'm still without data, though it's possible I've missed something I guess =/

tried a few other things in the Mobile IP Settings page, but still just sits at "Connecting to 3G", using a good PRL file for the provider.

Logs aren't overly helpful either:
277 seconds since last boot Overdrive: disconnect to network.
277 seconds since last boot Overdrive: trying to connect to network.
282 seconds since last boot Overdrive: disconnect to network.
282 seconds since last boot Overdrive: trying to connect to network.

which provider are you taking 3g settings from?

if it is NOT sprint.. then there are actually more 3g settings that need to be changed. if u were sticking with sprint editing what you have already would most likely cut it. when changing carriers there is also a PPP authentication as well to the data profiles. each carriers username/pass for that area is different. for sprint.. it matches the profile 0 user/pass.. which is meid@hcm.sprintpcs.com and a ugly hex password. on verizon i think its the phonenumber@vzw3g.com or w/e.. etc etc. basically.. when changing carriers the default ppp setting must be forced.

this can only be edited with an app like QPST. a diag driver is required for the device and app to talk to each other. ive never installed the truinstall drivers(i think thats what theyre called?) that come with the device.. perhaps these could assist?

the sprint mifi has diag drivers.. as well as just about every 3g card. all installed by default when installing the sprint smartview app. not sure why the overdrive was left out of the normal routines.

It's for Cricket, yeah I guess the PPP config tab would be important heh... I know what that should be set to, have had no problem setting up phones on Cricket... but yeah, QPST is a no-go.
So I guess this project of mine is pretty much dead until/if they come out with diagnostic drivers for it?

I wish DDWRT worked with it, then it could at least be used as a repeater or something

i cant see them ever officially making a diag driver for the overdrive. perhaps there's a mode to be unlocked somehow with a config file or something along those lines. because as of now.. its not like theres anything extra that shows up in device manager as a serial/diag connection. something would have to be enabled.. and then a driver created.

im not hardware expert tho.. so im not sure whats doable and whats not. id assume the device is capable of such a connection.... just a matter of how you're going to get it to do that.

not sure of everything thats possible via root either. maybe that can open up some doors.

i think it sucks that after a mac address change the certificates are no longer valid and authentication fails.. so we cant spoof the device just yet. i wonder if the ispot can be edited without worrying about certificates.

*edit*
maybe the Clear firmware has diag mode enabled? im unable to ssh into the device for some reason.. so cant do it myself. login fails each time.. not sure whats up with that.

Used the same steps to root your Clearwire firmware that were posted for the Sprint?

If you're able to actually connect to ssh, but get invalid user/pass, it sounds like it's still partly rooted... but maybe you need to re-do the steps to inject the "overdriver" user/pass in to the password file after a reboot?

With my Sprint firmware I kept needing to re-do the steps to get ssh running again after every reboot until I modified init.d to do the steps at boot

Edit: rooted, partly ROOTED, not running heh

pretty sure realm changes over to clears when you flash the new clear f/w. if youre trying to change it to something else entirely.. not sure how to do that.
